Hot & Cold Stones for Sports & Massage Therapy

Hot stone massage is a deep massage that uses soothing oils, warm basalt and sometimes cold marble stones to relax your muscles.

Benefits of hot stones as part of a sports massage include:

  • instant heat, aids relaxation

  • helps to alleviate muscle tension, aches & pains

  • increase blood flow – bringing new oxygenated blood to tissues and removing waste products

  • increase lymph flow – helping the body to rid itself of toxins and to aid the immune system

Benefits of cold stones as part of a sports massage include:

  • Aids in reducing swelling and treating work, sporting and other accidents by helping to release blood in the affected area

  • Can relieve of sore, tired muscles

  • Soothes muscle irritation

  • Boosts circulation - increases blood pressure & heart rate

  • Produces an analgesic effect (the body releases a natural pain relief substance (prostaglandin) into the muscle when cold is applied

Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial Cupping (cupping or dry cupping as it is also known) is one of the oldest forms of Eastern alternative treatments. It uses plastic cups to create a suction in area's of musculoskeletal tension which are located with massage techniques. The cups can either glide across the skin surface pulling the tissue into the cup as it moves or can remain in one place for a short period of time. If there are left stationary then this can cause red/purple marks (you may have seen swimmers and other athletes with these marks - they will disappear after a few days).

Benefits of Myofascial Cupping:

  • can help ease muscle tension

  • can help improve circulation

  • can help improve range of movement

If you would like Myofascial Cupping as part of your treatment please let me know at the time of booking.
